There are gaps in the existing government and non-government programs currently in place to support these new arrivals. Rotary Club of Calgary North is focused on providing financial resources to fill the gaps related to housing and medical costs.
RCCN will consider funding critical housing related or medical/dental costs that are not covered by other government programs or non-government agencies. Examples that may be covered include:
- Assistance with initial rent payment while evacuees are getting establish
- Assistance with the costs of furniture delivery to a new place of residence
- Assistance with the costs related to medical/dental requirements that are not covered by Alberta Health
- Assistance with the costs of some critical housing related items
Each request for assistance will be considered on a case by case basis. Financial assistance from the Rotary Club of Calgary North is funded totally from donations to this project. Our goal is to provide financial assistance, while funds are available, to as many people as possible while focusing on those who have the greatest need.

Though government programs are improving, the statistics from Immigration Canada suggest that the need for financial support from Rotary will increase significantly over time. As of June 2022, over 500 Ukrainian evacuee families have arrived in Calgary. Most are in temporary housing that has been secured largely by other volunteer agencies. We are, however, expecting that the demand for support will increase significantly in the future. Immigration Canada has indicated approximately 30,000 evacuees holding approved visas have identified Calgary as their first choice for a place to live. Most of the evacuees have therefore yet to arrive and the need for donations to this project will is expected to increase as a result.
Funds are collected via “ The Rotary Club of Calgary North Foundation “ This is a registered Foundation with Revenue Canada, and can issue tax receipts for support of appropriate community projects.
To get a tax receipt send a cheque to “ Rotary Club of Calgary North Foundation" and specify on the cheque "for Ukrainian Evacuee support program ". Also include a note with the name and address that should appear on your tax receipt. Include your email so we can facilitate sending out receipts.
