In 2026, the Strategic Planning Committee of the RC of Calgary North is reviewing its strategic plan to direct the work of the club over the next three years.
A Strategic Plan is a Board-approved tool that is developed and used by the members of an organization for the purpose of steering the activities and sustainability of the organization. Within the framework of the organization's Vision, Mission, Mandate, and Values, the Strategic Plan outlines key goals for the upcoming years, defines objectives that relate to those goals, and includes strategies to attain these objectives. As part of the planning process, a strategic planning session is scheduled for Saturday, June 13th, with all members to begin building key elements of the renewed strategy. The RC of Calgary North’s planning process will be facilitated by a Community Development Officer with the Community Development Unit of Alberta Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Status of Women as one of their many professional community support services. |

Indigenous Participation in Major Projects, Access to Finance and Alberta Experience
Sep. 21, 2026 12:00 p.m.
Lawrence L. Schembri Fraser Institute and Tulo Centre for Indigenous Economics Major natural resource, electricity and transportation projects are critical for the future prosperity of all Canadians, especially as we strive to increase business investment and diversify our international trade. Such projects often, if not always, take place on the traditional territories of Indigenous communities. Partnerships with Indigenous communities through shared equity ownership and fiscal jurisdiction generate mutually beneficial returns, information sharing and risk management. In addition, they help to ensure the environmental sustainability of these projects and to preserve the land for future generations. The lack of access to finance has been a major obstacle to Indigenous economic inclusion and development. Alberta’s experience offers useful lessons about overcoming this and other obstacles to achieving successful partnerships with Indigenous communities. Restoring Indigenous prosperity supports Indigenous self-determination and promotes economic reconciliation. |
